Banks and Exchange: Greek banks are normally open Monday-Thursday 8.30am-2pm and Friday 8.30am-1.30pm. Most of them exist in Corfu Town and a few of the more major resorts. The safest way to carry money is in travellers' cheques. You can cash the cheques at most banks, and at quite a number of hotels, travel agencies and tourist shops. Boat Hire: Many people like to hire a small boat when they visit Paxos. They're great fun and a lovely way to explore the East coast of the island. Credit Cars: Major credit cards, though still not as widely used as in many countries, are gradually being accepted by an increasing number of the more up market hotels, shops and, to a lesser extent, tavernas. Atms: It is far simpler to use the growing network of ATMs that are now found all over Corfu, though not yet on any of the satellite islands. Note that transactions using debit cards linked to current accounts via the Cirrus/Plus system work out far more economical than using credit cards in these cash dispensers.
